What are the benefits of an In-roof Solar Panel system?
Aesthetic Appeal: In-roof systems integrate seamlessly into the roof's structure, providing a clean and streamlined appearance. This design choice can enhance the overall look of the property compared to traditional solar panels sitting on top of the roof.
Weather Resistance: These systems are installed as part of the roofing structure, providing a high level of durability and resistance to weather elements. A well-installed in-roof solar system can withstand high winds and reduce the risk of leaks.
Increased Property Value: Installing an in-roof solar panel system can potentially increase the property’s market value. Energy-efficient features are increasingly appealing to buyers, making your property more attractive.
Space Efficiency: Since in-roof panels replace standard roofing materials, they utilise space effectively, allowing for solar energy generation without taking up additional surface area. This is particularly beneficial for properties with limited roof space.
Easier Maintenance: In-roof installations are generally easier to maintain compared to traditional mounted systems. The integrated design reduces the chances of dirt and debris accumulation, which can negatively impact solar panel efficiency.
Higher Efficiency: Many in-roof solar panels are designed specifically for efficiency and often come with advanced technology, leading to better energy production compared to some traditional panels.
Can I install in-roof solar panels on my home?
Integrated solar panel systems are versatile solutions that can be seamlessly incorporated into both traditional homes and new build properties, whether during the initial building phase or as a post-construction enhancement.
For regular homes, retrofitting existing roofs with integrated solar panels is feasible. This process ensures that the solar panels blend seamlessly into the roofline, enhancing the overall aesthetic while providing energy savings. Homeowners looking to replace their roof can also consider integrated solar panels during the refurbishment process.
In new build properties, integrated solar panels can be designed into the architecture at the outset, allowing for optimal placement and maximising energy efficiency. Additionally, extensions or renovations can incorporate integrated solar solutions, ensuring that all aspects of the property are energy-efficient and in line with modern environmental standards.
What’s difference between In-Roof Solar and On-roof Solar systems?
In-roof solar and on-roof solar refer to two different methods of installing solar panels on a property, each with its own set of benefits and considerations.
In-roof Solar
In-roof solar panels are integrated directly into the roofing structure. This means that the solar panels replace traditional roofing materials, creating a seamless and aesthetically pleasing appearance. The installation involves removing a part of the existing roof and placing the solar panels within the roof frame. In-roof systems tend to have a lower profile, which can enhance the overall look of a building and may improve aerodynamic performance. However, they can be more expensive to install compared to conventional setups and may require a specific type of roofing material.
On-roof Solar
On-roof solar panels, on the other hand, are mounted on top of the existing roof structure. This method typically uses mounting brackets to secure the solar panels above the roof surface, allowing for installation without disrupting the existing roofing materials. On-roof systems are often easier and faster to install, making them a popular choice for many homeowners. They can also be removed and relocated more easily than in-roof systems. However, the installation may be more visible and can alter the roof's aesthetic.
How Do We Install Your Solar Panel System?
-
Step 1 - About You
You are the most important part of this process. During this step will find out what you are looking to achieve, your property details, current energy usage, and how much you are looking to invest in your solar panel system. We will explain how the system works, the different types of solar panel systems that are available and the different types of battery storage systems.
-
Step 2 - Survey
We can do this in person or remotely by using Google Earth and photos. During this part of our process, we are looking to fully understand everything about your property, particularly the construction materials and methods of the roof elements. We will identify the optimum position, type and number of solar panels.
-
Step 3 - Recommendation
Based on everything we have discovered about you and your home we will recommend the most suitable solar system. It will illustrate the total cost, installation time and potential savings that could be made. We will also show you why we have chosen the system and offer alternative specifications based on cost or performance.
-
Step 4 - Final Checks
If you are happy to proceed we will complete our final checks. We may need to visit your property again to complete a structural report that identifies roof loadings, suitability of fixings, identify the location for the inverter or battery packs, and check the health of your current electricity set up.
Next, we will arrange a booking date, order the scaffolding and the chosen components.
-
Step 5 - Installation
We will erect the scaffolding a few days before we start installation and complete our safety checks. Installation can take between 3-5 days depending on the size and complexity and we will update you at the end of each day. Our work is completed in line with Part A of the Buildings Regulations and Part P Electrical Compliance for the new AC circuit wired to the solar inverter.
-
Step 6 - Guarantee & Aftercare
Before leaving your home we will ensure your solar installation is safe against the elements including leaks from water. We will provide you with instructions on how to use and monitor your systems and what to do if there is an emergency. Next we will register your system with the grid and identify the current best provider for the Smart Export Guarantee. We will issue you with the Manufacturers product guarantee and our work comes with an insurance backed 10 year guarantee.
