Is My House Suitable For Solar Panels?
As one of the leading solar companies in Essex, we take pride in tailoring our solar panel and battery storage installations to suit the requirements of your home. Thankfully, there are many different types of solar panels and specialised roof fixings available, each designed to fit specific roof types and maintain the water seal which ensures that your roof is suitable for solar installation and that you can save money on your electricity bills.
Check out the different types of roofs we can cater to below:
Solar Panels On A Slate Roof
Fitting solar panels onto a slate roof can be a little more tricky than a standard modern concrete roof as the tiles can be brittle. We take great care and time to ensure our installation onto your slate roof is finished to the highest standard, using the correct fitting tools and MCS-approved slate roof fixings.
Integrated Solar Panel Installations
In roof solar panels look great, especially on a grey or black roof. There is a little more work involved in the installation and the correct flashing needs to be installed to maintain a water-tight finish. There is also a Zero risk of birds nesting!
Solar Panels On A Flat Roof
When Installing solar panels onto a flat roof we take into account the condition of your existing roof covering, the strength of the roof, the space that’s available and the potential shading from surrounding panels, trees and buildings. Panels fitted less than 20cm from the roofs surface can be fitted using permitted development.
Solar Panels On A Tiled Roof
Concrete tile roofs are the most common roofs to install solar panels onto. To ensure a perfect watertight fit we use a special roof hook for each type of tile, ensuring a flush, strong fit to your roof. Adding bird protection to every installation ensures the longevity of your system’s performance.
Ground Mounted Solar Panels
Ground-mounted solar panels are an ideal solution for listed properties, houses with complex fragile roofs, or high electricity users that require large amounts of power. Ground mounted systems do require planning permission and flat level ground that is suitable for mounting. We stock a variety of weighted or mechanical fixed solutions.
Solar Panels On A Summer House
Solar panels can be fitted to most flat or pitched roofs. We have fitted systems to summer houses, garages, sheds and offices. Our favorite method of fixing is to use a low profile mechanical fixing. This keeps the panels very low, extending the life of your roof and shielding the building from the sun.

-
Step 1 - About You
You are the most important part of this process. During this step will find out what you are looking to achieve, your property details, current energy usage, and how much you are looking to invest in your solar panel system. We will explain how the system works, the different types of solar panel systems that are available and the different types of battery storage systems.
-
Step 2 - Survey
We can do this in person or remotely by using Google Earth and photos. During this part of our process, we are looking to fully understand everything about your property, particularly the construction materials and methods of the roof elements. We will identify the optimum position, type and number of solar panels.
-
Step 3 - Recommendation
Based on everything we have discovered about you and your home we will recommend the most suitable solar system. It will illustrate the total cost, installation time and potential savings that could be made. We will also show you why we have chosen the system and offer alternative specifications based on cost or performance.
-
Step 4 - Final Checks
If you are happy to proceed we will complete our final checks. We may need to visit your property again to complete a structural report that identifies roof loadings, suitability of fixings, identify the location for the inverter or battery packs, and check the health of your current electricity set up.
Next, we will arrange a booking date, order the scaffolding and the chosen components.
-
Step 5 - Installation
We will erect the scaffolding a few days before we start installation and complete our safety checks. Installation can take between 3-5 days depending on the size and complexity and we will update you at the end of each day. Our work is completed in line with Part A of the Buildings Regulations and Part P Electrical Compliance for the new AC circuit wired to the solar inverter.
